N**gas in Paris Remix

This is hammmm....haven't been riding with T.I. for a few years now but these tracks he's hopped on the last few weeks since his release have been ridiculous. His flow is so much better it reminds me of TIP circa 2002. I really hope he is back.

Out My Mind Just In Time - Erykah Badu

Hello World, This is part one two of a two part video by Erykah Badu, this was easily my favorite song off of the New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh). Video is simple and emotional. I personally like it, but she can do no harm in my eyes so check it out.

Jhene Aiko Sailing Souls Mixtape

I've stumbled upon this mixtape over and over again within the last month.  I kept writing it off, but eventually after hearing it played by numerous friends, I decided to give it a real listen. I can honestly say i'm so glad I did.

Jhene Aiko voice reminds me of Cassie she has a really nice mellow voice, and more importantly I enjoy the subject matter in her songs.  Much of her lyrics have to do with not trusting men, failed relationship, struggles of life and decisions, raising a baby and chasing a dream, and doing what you want but struggling with image. I initially thought this was typical RnB or even pop, but this genre kind of reminds me of a conglomerate of Hip Hop and this new L.A. RnB sound (example Frank Ocean).

I am a groupie for sampling in music, and her primary producers on this Mixtape are Fisticuffs who do a really cool job of sampling Hip Hop Artist lyrics, such a good job I think that these artists are guest appearing on some of the tracks. Other notable producers are Bei Meijor, Roosevelt, J LBS, Tae Beast.  Some of the artists featured/sampled are: Kanye West, Gucci Man, Kendrick Lamar, and Miguel.  All in all it's the kind of mixtape that I'd listen to in a variety of settings kind of like Drake's So Far Gone. Definitely on my summer playlist.  Download and listen its a really good mixtape. P.S. I dont say this often but I can honestly listen to every song straight through and I lowkey get upset when it's over lol.

Frank Ocean-Nostalgia Ultra

Not down too much with Odd Future, but I definitely listen to Frank Ocean. He is clearly growing in popularity and I figured I'd post his Album, Nostalgia Ultra, which was released back in March, for anyone who hasn't given it a listen.

It's dope, reminiscent of Drake, So Far Gone minus the rapping (and I could care less if he takes offense to it or if anyone disagrees... it does #shrugs lol). It's just mellow and I literally can listen to it from beginning to end without skipping one track. He has a good ear for production because all of the songs feature diverse samples and a sound of various musical genre's outside of typical contemporary R&B.  He also talks about so many various topics that many can relate to. I also like his voice because he can really sing.  So, needless to say he should be listened to. The Weeknd is worth a mention and listen too!

Solange Artist Spotlight

Even though Solange Knowles has only one album out, Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams, that's considered GOOD music, I believe she deserves honorable mention in an Artist Spotlight post.  Solange is a talented girl, and if she gets back in the studio to produce another body of work, she could really grow her already strong fan base.

Her above mentioned album is reminiscent of the 60's Motown music era. It's really a classic album. Songs like Would've Been the One, I Told You So, and T.O.N.Y are clearly created from an emotional place. A brilliant artistic outlet and it's sooooo relate-able.  She isn't at all like her sister, i'm not even trying to be negative either, her style is just totally different.  She is a talented song-writer as well, lending her song writing talents to other artists. Anyway give it a listen and there is a new unreleased track on here as well.

Olivia - December

I have been a fan of Olivia for a very long time. Around the age of 13 I began discovering my musical taste, and I fell in love with Mama’s Gun by Erykah Badu and Olivia's self-titled album "Olivia" back in ’01.

Now, I probably should not have been listening to songs like “Silly Bitch In Love” or “Bizounce” but I was. Needless to say I don’t post a lot of contemporary R&B on here or soul hip-hop but I love Olivia and I hope someone will read this and give her a listen because she is a really talented singer/rapper/songwriter. I’m happy she hasn't given up on her career and I wish her well especially after the whole G-Unit hoopla she went through. Anyway, her new video December is posted below! Enjoy!

Big K.R.I.T.

Hello World! I haven't felt moved by anyone as of late but re-listening to this mixtape has moved me to want to blog about music again.

Big Krit has a new album coming out next week and I felt compelled to put this mixtape on here.  I swear this dude may be my favorite rapper he does not lie and speaks words as if he were in my mind. Pure talent and I can.not.wait. until the Return of 4eva is dropped next MONDAY March 28, 2011.

Listen to Good Talk 9 - Curve Your Enthusiasm, "My Interpretation" is probably going down as one of my favorite hip hop songs ever. His word play and take on reality for blacks in America, specifically of lower socioeconomic status, is just too raw. I'm nearly brought to tears when I listen to it because it's so real. I don't understand why dude buzz is not louder. He was, however, in XXL Freshmen Class '11, and a ton of the guys from the Freshmen Class '10, are definitely growing in popularity. So, hey maybe he'll be next year's most talked about artist, hopefully even this year.

I saw him last month in concert, and you know how you can tell someone is meant to be a star, well K.R.I.T. is that. Anyway, as a reminder that his album is coming out next week I've posted another mixtape on here. If you've never listen to dude, you should.

Corinne Bailey Rae *****Artist Spotlight*****

Anyone who knows me, and I do mean KNOWS ME, knows that I love this woman.

Corinne Bailey Rae has been around for the last 5 years and has made a lasting stamp on music. Songs like Choux Pastry Heart and Like A Star, both off of her debut album, exhibit her God given talent.

What's even better is she writes her own stuff, (as almost all the artist on this blog do). Like seriously after you listen to her melodic voice how could you not love this woman. I swear it's something so soulful about the ladies from across the pond.

Rundown
Ms. Corinne is songstress from the U.K., who happens to play the guitar, with roots in gospel and rock, she discovered her love for jazz and soul while in college. Her debut self titled album premiered in 2006 with her sophomore follow up, The Sea, in 2010. She also produced The Love, EP of cover songs in 2011.

She is someone to definitely take a listen to. She has toured with the likes of John Legend and I would totally recommend buying an album and giving it a good listen.

Justin Nozuka

Justin Nozuka is a phenomenal young artist. He had a semi-hit with After Tonight back in 2007/2008. But for some reason he still seems to be an artist who is under the radar. His debut album, Holly, came out in 2007, and this was by far one of my favorite albums of that year. Songs like Supposed To Grow Old, Save Him, and Oh Momma are songs that completely exemplify why he is mature beyond his years and a rare talent. Oh and by the way I only post on Artist who primarily write or produce their on music, so yea this guy can write.

In 2010, he released his sophomore album You I Wind Land Sea, and it was yet another amazing album. I really don't want to continue to harp on how great this guy is but listen, I assure you that you will feel the same.

Kid Sister feat. Gucci Mane - Gucci Rag Top

I love Kid Sister I heard her back in '07 and then she disappeared for a minute, but she recently released a mixtape,  Kiss Kiss Kiss, and this song featuring Gucci is one of the tracks from the mixtape. The beat goes oh so hard in this song (but all her beats are dope)! She released her album Ultraviolet back in '09 and hopefully she will release another album sometime soon. Glad to see more female hip hop artist!

T.I. feat. Shun Hendrix Follow Your Dreams

I've been following TIP since he was, well, TIP, but seriously I've been down since T.I. and P.$.C. In Tha $treetz Vol. 1 back in like 2001. I don't really care for the new T.I., not since Urban Legend, and I don't listen to his music anymore. But to my surprise I stumbled upon this song and it's a good song from his new album Mercy. It's so applicable to my life and a lot of people around me so, I decided to post it!

Mos Def - Umi Says

For some reason I am feeling this song today. Maybe because I've been pondering about my people this week in light of MLK Day and all.

Umi Says captivates my feelings and sentiments about my community and its current condition. What i'm so bothered by is people love to holler about change, when 40 plus years later we complain about the same things. Poverty, education and segregation, inability of upward mobility, environmental racism, prison industrial complex, welfare system and it's hindrance, absent fathers, violence, drugs, stereotypes etc., etc. etc. It's 2011 when will WE stand up and say we've had enough...

Thus far I am loving the songs. I hope yall go out and get it! Take a listen to a few of the songs from the up coming album.

I love Duffy!

This song is slightly growing on me. I have been waiting on new music from her for some time now. In November her new Album Endlessly came out. I haven't given it a thorough listening but I definitely will sometime soon.

Smoke Dza - The Early Days of George (prod. Hi -Tek)

So, not a huge fan of DZA (haven't taken the time to listen) but I love Hi-Tek and his production skills...plus this song is kind of dope!

Marsha Ambrosius Video -Far Away

Hello world! This is my first post of 2011. *Throws Confetti*

Anywho...This year one my new years resolutions is to post on here more often, like at least twice a day.

Nevertheless, a little over a month ago I posted Marsha Ambrosius song for Far Away, and now she has a video! It's totally not what I expected, but it's refreshing because videos are so typical nowadays. It takes a stance on bullying *which i'm so tired of hearing about* and homophobia. Love this song!!!
