Little Dragon - On Tour

I pretty much LOVE Little Dragon. The first song I heard a few years ago was Twice, off of their debut album, Little Dragon, and from that point on I've kind of followed the band.

Little Dragon is a group from Sweden with Yukimi Nagano as the vocalist. The group's sound is different and labeled electronic, but Yukimi's voice is extremely soulful so, I'd also give label it Neo-Soul.  Many compare her to Erykah Badu, however I wouldn't go that far and say she is the Swedish Erykah. She has an amazing sound and beautiful voice, nonetheless. They were widely introduced through Gorillaz, and have collaborated with them on a few tracks. The group has released two albums, Little Dragon & Machine Dreams. They're currently on Tour in the U.S. and Canada and will be stopping in Atlanta January 25, 2011 at Masquerade.

Take a listen!

Kid Cudi - Review of Man on the Moon II: Legend of Mr. Rager

Okay, So I've been meaning to get to this post way before now, but can I just say I am personally in love with Kid Cudi's New album, Man on the Moon II: Legend of Mr. Rager,

I don't know why I doubted his creative capabilities but, he definitely produced a quality body of work. This album did a different take on Man On The Moon series, departing from his first Man On The Moon which was somewhat dark, but it dealt primarily with his ambitions and pursuit of dreams, this sequel goes into a darker reality of Kid Cudi. Man On The Moon II has definitely separated him from the backpack weed rappers, which he could've easily been mistakenly typecast into; and its oh so frequent now a days.

Little Brother - Artist Spotlight

Little Brother, sigh, one of my favorite hip-hop duo's/trio's. Seriously these dudes talk about real things, with some of the best beats period, and I can't help but love them. And your favorite artists love them as well. They've worked with the likes of Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, and Drake!

Run Down
Big Pooh, Phonte, and 9th Wonder were members of the influential group, Little Brother. Together they produced four amazing studio albums: LeftBack (2010) Getback (2007) The Minstrel Show (2006) The Listening (2003). Coming out of North Carolina (I'm beginning to believe that NC is a mecca of good M.C.'s and producers...outside of Petey Pablo and Fantasia haha) The group first met back in '98 while enrolled in college and released their debut album in '03. In '07 9th Wonder left the group and in 2010 Little Brother released their final album unfortunately.

But all three artist are working in music still. 9th Wonder is still producing a ton of stuff, Phonte is 1/2 of the duo Foreign Exhange (music is amazing by the way), and Big Pooh is still MC'ing as well.

Anyway Take a Listen!

Silly - David Banner, 9th Wonder, Erykah Badu

Y'all know I love Badu, hence why I would name a blog after a song she did :)! Anywho this is a new song, Silly, with her, two of my favorite producers 9th Wonder and David Banner. Enjoy!

Amel Larrieux- WHERE ARE YOU WE MISS YOU!!!

So, today I am dedicating this post to Amel Larrieux, who happens to be one of my favorite songstresses. She has slightly been M.I.A., and needless to say she is greatly missed. This talented lady is from Manhattan, New York and started her career with Groove Theory (a hip-hop/r&b duo with Bryce Wilson). After a few years with Groove Theory she went solo and in 2000 she released her debut Infinite Possibilities. She went on to produce 3 more albums. Her last album Lovely Standards was released waaaay  back in 2007 (not that long ago, but her music is too good to go on a hiatus), and apparently she has a new solo album coming out, entitled Ice Cream Every Day.

In 2010 she did a concert with her old band Groove Theory, and is currently in the studio working on their 2nd album. Hopefully, she'll put out a solo album and the album with Groove Theory in 2011 *finger crossed* But anyway here are some of my favorite songs by Amel Larrieux.

Eric Roberson - Artist Spotlight

Eric Roberson A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. what more can I say! Hailing from New Jersey, he has been around for over 10 years, producing phenomenal neo-soul music. Primarily underground, he has 7 albums under his belt and several collaborations with artists such as Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild, Vivian Green, and Dwele. Choosing to remain true to his art form by sticking to the independent route, he has a solid reputation in the non-mainstream circle of neo-soul. Give him a listen he is well worth it.

Cee-Lo Green It's Okay

Voli - Solitary Confinement

I keep hearing this dude stuff, and I like what I hear. I can totally relate to what he talks about, plus I always have major respect for an artist who's a songwriter and producer (good producer). Anywho, this is a new video by Voli Solitary Confinement

Voli - Solitary Confinement (Video) from Vic Lopez on Vimeo.

ChHi Da Prynce - Freestyle

Dude, is from the same area I'm from, but I'm not sure if I rock with him yet. He talks about trapping way to much for my current taste, but nevertheless he is signed to G.O.O.D music and he can freestyle pretty well. I'll continue to listen but I haven't made a final verdict on whether I like him or not. Take a listen.

Teedra Moses- Artist Spotlight

Teedra Moses, a very talented Hip Hop soul-singer and writer based out of L.A., happens to be one of my favorite Songstresses. A very beautiful, melodic voice with lyrics that totally captivate her audience. She has already established a strong fan base, but for some reason this talented lady can't seem to break mainstream success (i'd like to argue that mainstream success is a curse anyway). Nevertheless, I've decided to dedicate an Artist Spotlight to her.

She has been in the game for nearly 8 years, and with one album, "Complex Simplicity" and a string of mixtapes. Her most recent Royal Patience was released earlier this year.

Chrisette Michelle - I'm A Star

Chrisette Michelle's third studio album Let Freedom Reign is due November 30, 2010. With two amazing albums under her belt this third album is a bit different than what we may be used to. Her usual soul ballads will be a little different this time around because Ms. Michelle is rapping. Noted to be a rapper long before she was a singer, this should be interesting and a new sound. As long as she doesn't do the typical female rapper imitation, i.e. Nicki Minaj, Foxy Brown, Lil Kim, etc. I'm all ears.

Here's one of her singles "I'm A Star"

Lupe Fiasco and John Legend Forget About You

Dwele "My People"

Dwele's My People is from his 5th studio album W.ants W.orld W.omen. The song is written, produced, and some of the instruments are played by Dwele himself. This song is a beautiful tale of our society today specifically the black community. Hailing from Detroit, Michigan, I am sure he has had his fair share of societal ills inflicted upon the poor working class black population. A very insightful, accurate, and well constructed piece on "My People" hits topics from unemployment to how hard times are even though we've "come so far". Wonderful Piece!

Blame Game Kanye West

One of my favorite tracks off of his new album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, is Blame Game featuring John Legend and produced by DJ Toomp. This version im posting is slowed down due to copyright infrigment laws. I'll post the normal version after November 22.

Big Krit

Hailing from Mississippi, Big Krit is the south's newest underground rapper with an actual message. He definitely speaks for the youth specifically, the one's enduring the trials and tribulations of growing up in the south A.D. 2000.

Using beats reminiscent of U.G.K. and lyrics to the likes of Outkast and Goodie Mob back in '96, his self-produced debut mixtape "Krit Wuz Here" dropped in May of 2010. Check this dude out he's definitely the truth.
